Hostal de las Artes is located in a family mansion built in the late 19th century. Much of the original decoration, tiles and wood have been preserved (although the 24-hour hot water is provided by 21st century solar heating). The hotel has single, double, triple and dormitory rooms with and without private bathroom. It provides ideal accommodation for budget travelers and tourists to Peru needing inexpensive accommodation in the center of Lima. Located in a quiet but safe street the hotel is in a historic part of Lima close to the Plaza Bolognesi and Paseo Colon. Nearby are the Sheraton Hotel, the Art Museum, Palace of Justice, Arts cinema, and the restored Great Park. Also nearby is the famous Polvos Azules market where bargains of all kinds are available. Just a short taxi ride away is the Main Square with the Presidential Palace and Cathedral, and other tourist attractions such as the San Francisco Convent, Inquisition Museum, typical balconied houses from the colonial era, and Chinatown. Facilities at the hotel include 24-hour reception, airport transfer (by previous arrangement), free baggage storage, tourist information, gay and lesbian information, and book exchange. There is a security box in every room. Nearby is a gymnasium that offers a discount to guests. In streets around the hotel there are restaurants serving Peruvian cuisine (including vegetarian), and general stores selling fruit, groceries, etc. There is an internet cafe one block away.
